One of the many thousands of 'Poor Bloody Infantrymen' who fought in the Second World War, Alan's story is one of terror, sudden death, near misses and above all remarkable fortitude and luck.

He escaped serious injury on many occasions and says he had a 'Lucky' war.

Remarkable for its passage from training camp to Gourock then Africa and Italy, it is more so because Alan was only just sixteen when he enlisted in the Sherwood Foresters, lying about his age after running away from home when he was only fifteen.

Told in his own words via HD Video, his story is dedicated to the many thousands of soldiers, sailors and airmen who, like Alan, pushed on, persevered and gave us our freedom.

This same single-minded determination has been and is still being demonstrated by our Armed Forces every day in all of the other past and current theatres of conflict throughout the world.
